Mutant pregnancy, horrific bloody birth from hell, mutant child, horrible death scene that leads to her finally being transformed into a vampire. Then she goes through the fire and comes out. Initially she really wants to Live colorfully or dye trying LGBT shirt see the baby but is forced to hunt. She comes back and though-out the rest of the book, she is little more than apathetic toward her care; often having Rosalie and Jacob tending to her except to put her to bed in their cottage.
